Intel is reportedly weighing a potential sale of its networking and edge unit as CEO Lip-Bu Tan seeks to streamline operations and refocus the semiconductor giant’s core business. According to sources, Intel has initiated informal discussions with prospective buyers, though an official sales process has not yet commenced.
The networking and edge division specializes in chips used across the telecommunications industry, generating approximately $5.8 billion in revenue for Intel in 2024. Its sale would align closely with Tan’s previously stated commitment to shedding operations deemed non-essential to Intel’s strategic focus, which remains concentrated on personal computing and data center technologies.
Tan publicly indicated plans to divest non-core assets at Intel’s Vision conference in March, making a sale of the networking and edge unit unsurprising to industry analysts. Intel has yet to officially confirm its plans or provide further comment on the matter.
