Amazon Web Services is reportedly developing a new AI-driven coding tool, internally named “Kiro.” This advanced software aims to provide rapid code generation capabilities by connecting with AI agents using prompt-driven and existing data sources. The tool is said to support multimodal input and will be accessible via both web and desktop applications. Additionally, Kiro could integrate third-party AI agents to enhance its versatility.
Beyond generating source code, Kiro is designed to create technical design documentation, highlight potential coding issues, and deliver optimized solutions to streamline software development tasks.
AWS already offers an AI-powered coding assistant known as Q Developer, designed to compete with tools like GitHub Copilot. Although initial internal documents suggested Kiro could launch at the end of June, these timelines remain uncertain and subject to change.
The market for AI-powered coding technologies remains robust. Recent examples highlighting the sector’s growth include Cursor maker Anysphere, which reportedly secured funding valuing the startup at approximately $9 billion, and coding assistant company Windsurf, reportedly nearing acquisition by OpenAI in a $3 billion deal.
