Instagram announced on Thursday it will soon introduce a highly-anticipated feature allowing users to rearrange their profile grids. This move addresses one of the platform’s most requested changes, providing greater flexibility for users seeking to craft a personalized, visually appealing profile.
Currently, Instagram posts appear strictly in chronological order, and the only option for emphasizing older content has been the ability to pin selected posts to the top. With this new update, users will have complete freedom to customize their profile, curating their displayed content in any desired order to highlight preferred posts or enhance overall aesthetics.
While this announcement confirms a prediction made earlier this year by Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the concept itself isn’t entirely new. The company initially explored a similar update in 2022 but subsequently placed the idea on hold. Now ready for release, this feature will let users finely tune their personal brands and creative expression through their grids.
Instagram is also testing another feature designed to let users quietly post content directly to their profiles without broadcasting it to follower feeds. According to Mosseri, this reflects the company’s recognition that sharing content can often be intimidating for users, so a quieter posting option aims to lower this barrier, allowing users more freedom to experiment creatively without fear of immediate widespread visibility.
The quiet posting tool resembles Instagram’s previously launched “trial reels”—an initiative in which creators can share experimental content without alerting followers. Instagram noted that trial reels significantly increased creators’ posting frequency and widened their audience reach, suggesting similar outcomes may result from the quiet posts feature.
Separately, Instagram is enhancing social connectivity with a new integration feature enabling Spotify users to stream song selections directly to their public Instagram Notes in real time. Followers will be able to discover and interact with the music their friends are currently enjoying.
Finally, Instagram unveiled a new project titled “Drafts” aimed at nurturing emerging talent on the platform. This initiative isn’t structured as a dedicated creator fund; instead, Instagram plans to collaborate individually with creators, offering personalized support that may include financial benefits, mentorship, collaborative opportunities, and professional connections tailored to creators’ specific needs and projects.
