Instagram announced on Monday an update that now enables users to share Spotify songs with sound directly in their Stories. Previously, when users shared a track from the popular streaming platform, the story would only show a visual link, without any accompanying audio. Under the new update, viewers can now immediately listen to short previews of the shared songs without having to leave Instagram’s app.
Though seemingly minor, this update significantly improves the user experience, making music sharing and discovery smoother and more intuitive within Instagram itself. The move closely follows a similar feature recently introduced to Instagram’s “Notes,” where users can already stream Spotify music directly, effectively letting followers see and hear in real-time what others are listening to.
Instagram’s expanded capabilities appear strategically designed to bolster the platform’s position as a key hub for discovering and sharing music content, simultaneously increasing user engagement. The social network continues enhancing its music-related features in apparent response to changing user habits and growing competition from apps like TikTok, which currently has significant influence on music chart trends globally.
Alongside the Spotify update, Instagram revealed new font options for Stories and Reels. Among these is a distinctive limited-time font modeled after musician Rosalía’s handwriting, including exclusive hand-drawn symbols from the artist that become visible when typing specific characters like “:-)”, “***”, or “<3."
