Google’s Secret Move: Ads Sneak into Your AI Chats – What Are They Planning Next?

Google is reportedly now displaying advertisements within users’ conversations conducted through some third-party AI chatbots, according to a recent Bloomberg report. This marks an extension of Google’s AdSense platform, which began enabling ad placements in chatbot interactions earlier this year.

Following initial trials with AI-driven startups like iAsk and Liner, Google has started expanding the feature to additional third-party chatbot providers. A company spokesperson, cited by Bloomberg, confirmed that “AdSense for Search” is now available for websites interested in including relevant advertising within conversational AI experiences.

Google’s latest move seems to reflect its desire to capitalize on the growing popularity of AI chat services, which are increasingly drawing users away from traditional search methods. Platforms such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Perplexity have become widely used alternatives for finding information or solving everyday problems online.

Seeking to counterbalance potential threats from these emerging AI platforms, Google has significantly ramped up investment in artificial intelligence tools and products. The company maintains a continually evolving collection of powerful language models, regularly updating its Gemini family of apps and services. Last year, Google also began integrating sponsored advertisements directly within its AI-generated summary boxes, known as “AI Overviews,” displayed in response to specific types of search queries.

Google has yet to issue an official public comment regarding this new advertising effort.
