From TikTok to Primetime: The Secret Revolution Brewing in the Streaming World

Three years ago, NBCUniversal embarked on an ambitious initiative designed to elevate TikTok influencers into television creators. Now, that strategy is materializing as four of those original participants are ready to debut their very own series on Peacock.

The lineup of new original shows, premiering simultaneously on May 19, includes “The Warehouse Phase” by Charlie Curtis-Beard, “The Kouncil” by creator Katie Florence, “Older Hotter Wiser” from Serena Kerrigan, and “People Like Me,” created by Daren Vongirdner.

This development underscores a notable shift in the entertainment landscape, as social media platforms—TikTok in particular—emerge as powerful launchpads for aspiring television creators. TikTok’s transformation into a breeding ground for innovative content reflects its informal title as the “new television,” drawing countless young creators into mainstream media. Recently, Boman Martinez-Reid, widely popular for impersonating the Kardashians on TikTok, landed a prominent television role, highlighting the growing trend of influencers successfully crossing into traditional media spaces.

Additionally, the recent viral popularity of TikTok series “Group Chat,” which ultimately earned its creator a spot on NBC’s “Today Show,” emphasizes the rapidly evolving transition from short-form online content to mainstream television opportunities.
