When U.S. Vice President JD Vance launched his profile on Bluesky on Wednesday evening, his account was suspended almost immediately. However, the platform soon reinstated the account, explaining that the suspension was triggered inadvertently by automated systems designed to detect attempts at impersonation, particularly targeting high-profile individuals.
A spokesperson from Bluesky clarified the matter in a statement, saying, “Vice President Vance’s account was temporarily flagged by our automated impersonation detection mechanism, a precaution frequently triggered for prominent individuals who are vulnerable to online impersonation attempts. The account was reinstated quickly and has since been verified to clearly indicate its authenticity.”
Bluesky concluded their statement with an official welcoming message to Vice President Vance, inviting his participation in ongoing conversations on the platform.
The Vice President’s first post on Bluesky highlighted his reaction to the recent Supreme Court ruling that upheld a contentious Tennessee law prohibiting gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors.
Earlier, Vance shared news of his new presence on Bluesky through Twitter, encouraging followers to join him on the emerging social media site.
