ByteDance reportedly intends to launch a new, U.S.-specific version of its popular video editing app, CapCut, according to recent reports. This move is aimed at addressing compliance requirements mandated by a 2024 U.S. law requiring ByteDance to divest its U.S.-based assets, including TikTok. Failure to adhere to this legislation would risk the company being prohibited from operating in the United States.
CapCut is already highly popular, with over one billion downloads recorded from the Google Play store alone. It currently ranks ahead of major competitors like Instagram and YouTube, securing the top position in the video app category on the U.S. iOS App Store.
In addition to the CapCut initiative, ByteDance is reportedly also working on a new version of TikTok tailored specifically to U.S. users, ahead of an anticipated sale of the platform to a consortium of investors.
The company has not yet indicated if it will follow a similar strategy with its other applications, Lemon8 and Gauth.
