Apple remains committed to its Vision Pro mixed reality headset despite witnessing disappointing sales since its initial release. After internal debate over the product’s future direction, the company has settled on developing two distinct new models aimed at addressing user criticisms and broadening its appeal.
One of the upcoming Vision Pro versions is specifically designed to tackle the core complaints surrounding the original model—the device’s weight and its steep $3,500 price tag. This next generation of the headset promises to be both lighter and more affordable, although achieving this could prove difficult given recent uncertainties related to ongoing tariff negotiations.
In addition to refining the existing standalone model, Apple is concurrently exploring a different approach: creating a variant of the Vision Pro that directly plugs into Mac computers. This Mac-compatible version would enable users to seamlessly stream desktop content and use enterprise-focused applications, expanding potential use cases significantly.
Ultimately though, these enhancements represent incremental steps toward Apple’s broader ambition, originally envisioned by CEO Tim Cook, of developing lightweight augmented reality glasses that wearers can comfortably use throughout an entire day.
