Amazon is creating a new research and development group within its consumer products division, with a dedicated focus on advancing agentic artificial intelligence and robotics technologies.
The announcement was made during an event held on Wednesday, where the company detailed its plans to integrate this initiative under Lab126, its established hardware R&D arm. Lab126 has historically been responsible for successful hardware products such as the Amazon Echo devices and the Kindle e-readers.
By placing the new team within Lab126, Amazon intends to closely align its work in agentic AI with its broader hardware strategy, specifically targeting enhancements for the company’s growing portfolio of warehouse robotics. Amazon’s primary goal is to design an effective agentic AI framework capable of significantly expanding the capabilities and autonomy of its robotic systems, allowing them to perform a broader range of tasks with greater skill and effectiveness.
