Airbnb has introduced a major change aimed at addressing a longtime user complaint: the frustration of discovering additional fees only at the final booking stage. Now, the platform will automatically present the total cost, inclusive of all fees, when users view properties during initial searches.
The new approach will show all users globally an upfront, transparent price before taxes as the default setting. Users searching for places to stay through the Airbnb website will see a clear label reading “Prices include all fees,” making it easier and faster to determine the full expense of bookings.
This move follows several years of experimentation and gradual rollout. Airbnb started testing this feature as early as 2019 in certain regions, including parts of Europe, Australia, Canada, and Korea. In 2022, Airbnb introduced an optional toggle for users in the United States and more than 200 other countries, giving customers the choice to see total pricing upfront. By 2023, the company expanded this initiative, integrating total-price viewing across price filters, maps, and detailed listing pages. Airbnb reports that approximately 17 million users have since utilized the feature.
Additionally, Airbnb is implementing new tools to support hosts, including providing the ability to compare their listings’ prices with similar nearby properties. Hosts will also gain insights into the total costs their guests are seeing, enabling them to adjust their pricing strategies more effectively.
