Rep. Dan Goldman sharply criticized Fox News host Will Cain during an exchange Wednesday, responding to Cain’s objections after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries questioned President Donald Trump’s cognitive abilities.
In defense of Jeffries, Goldman challenged Cain’s characterization, pointing toward a series of questionable decisions and actions by Trump during his first 100 days in office. Goldman enumerated examples indicating the President’s lack of competence, such as Trump’s apparent confusion over a clearly photoshopped image of Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s tattoos, his persistent misunderstanding of trade deficits leading to economic instability, and his failure to comprehend a recent unanimous Supreme Court ruling against him. Goldman also referenced Trump’s unusual choice to host press briefings with Elon Musk in the Oval Office.
Addressing Cain’s assertion that Jeffries’ concerns were absurd, Goldman stated, “I don’t know whether it’s incompetence, cognitive abilities, ignorance or just flat-out lying, but Donald Trump doesn’t seem aware of some very basic facts. Whatever you choose to call it, this looks like a disastrous performance for his first hundred days in office.”
Earlier, Jeffries appeared on the MeidasTouch network where he highlighted public concerns about Trump’s mental fitness, recalling Trump’s own frequent questioning of former President Joe Biden’s cognitive status during past campaigns.
Cain described Jeffries’ position as hypocritical, accusing Democrats of ignoring similar concerns with Biden while selectively targeting Trump. Goldman dismissed Cain’s critique and underscored that the issue was rooted in genuine concerns over Trump’s capability to effectively perform presidential duties, invoking potential implications related to the 25th Amendment.
Prior to and since his election, Trump had regularly fielded questions regarding his cognitive abilities. His communication had become notably erratic during public appearances, prompting widespread public and political debate about his stability and decision-making capacity.
